Sara Hurwitz

Sara Hurwitz is a prominent figure in American Judaism, born in 1977 in South Africa. She has established herself as a spiritual leader within the Modern Orthodox Judaism community in the United States, specifically aligning with the "Open Orthodox" faction. Her work has been significant in the context of Orthodox Jewish tradition, with some considering her a pioneer as the first female Orthodox rabbi.

Hurwitz currently serves as rabba at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale in New York, where she also co-founded and presides as president of Yeshivat Maharat.
