Edward Anders

American cosmochemist (1926–2025)

Edward Anders was a renowned American cosmochemist born in 1926 in Latvia. He went on to become a professor of chemistry at the University of Chicago, where he conducted extensive research in several key areas. His work focused on the origin and ages of meteorites, the presence of presolar grains in meteorites, and the abundance of chemical elements in the Solar System. Additionally, he explored the topic of mass extinctions in Earth's history, making significant contributions to the field of cosmochemistry.

Anders' notable career included his involvement in the Apollo program during the 1970s, where he was one of the principal investigators studying lunar samples returned to Earth. He continued his scientific research until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement from science, Anders shifted his focus to historical research, particularly on the Holocaust in Latvia. He became a prominent speaker, writer, and researcher on this topic, applying his rigorous academic approach to shed light on this critical period in history. Anders passed away in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to both the scientific and historical communities.
