Abraham Zacuto

Abraham Zacuto was a renowned Spanish Jewish astronomer and rabbi, born in 1452 in the region of Castile. His expertise spanned multiple fields, including astronomy, astrology, mathematics, and history. As a prominent figure in his community, Zacuto held significant positions, showcasing his intellectual prowess and spiritual leadership.

Zacuto's career reached a pinnacle when he was appointed as the Royal Astronomer to King John II of Portugal. However, his tenure was cut short, and he was forced to flee to Tunis. Despite the challenges he faced, Zacuto's contributions to the field of astronomy remain notable, reflecting his dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the celestial world. He passed away around 1515, leaving behind a legacy that continues to be acknowledged in the scientific and historical communities.
