Abraham Klausner

American Reform rabbi and military chaplain

Abraham Klausner was a prominent American Reform rabbi who served as a military chaplain in the United States Army. He held the rank of captain and played a significant role in providing support to survivors of the Holocaust. Following the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp on April 29, 1945, Klausner became a source of comfort and guidance for the thousands of emaciated survivors found at the camp.

Klausner's work extended beyond Dachau, as he also cared for thousands of displaced individuals left homeless in various camps. As the Allied Forces worked to determine the fate of these survivors, Klausner provided essential emotional and spiritual support. His selfless efforts earned him a revered position as a "father figure" among the survivors, and his contributions had a lasting impact on the lives of those he helped during this tumultuous period.
