Shlomo Hillel

Shlomo Hillel was a distinguished Israeli diplomat and politician, born in Iraq in 1923. His career in public service spanned multiple roles, including Speaker of the Knesset, Minister of Police, and Minister of Internal Affairs. In addition to his domestic positions, Hillel also represented Israel as an ambassador to several African countries. His diplomatic experience and skills played a significant part in shaping his country's international relations.

Prior to his formal diplomatic career, Hillel was involved in a pivotal operation that would change the course of Israeli history. As an agent of the Mossad LeAliyah Bet, he orchestrated the mass airlift of Iraqi Jews to Israel, known as Operation Ezra and Nehemiah, in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This operation had a profound impact on the Jewish community and Israel's population. Hillel passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to his country and its people.
