Moses Rosen

Moses Rosen was a prominent Romanian rabbi who played a crucial role in leading the Jewish community in Romania during a period of significant social and political change. He served as the Chief Rabbi of Romanian Jewry from 1948 to 1994, providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the community. In addition to his religious duties, Rosen also held important positions in the secular sphere, including president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania, a role he held from 1964 to 1994.

Rosen's leadership extended beyond the Jewish community, as he was also a deputy in the Romanian parliament, a position he held from 1957. He navigated the complexities of the Communist regime and continued to serve in the democratic parliament after the Romanian Revolution of 1989. During the 1980s, Rosen was granted Israeli nationality by the Romanian authorities, reflecting his connections to the global Jewish community. He also served as president of the Council of the Jewish Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv, further solidifying his reputation as a respected leader in Jewish affairs.
