Mordechai Shlomo Friedman
Ukrainian-born American rabbi
Mordechai Shlomo Friedman was a prominent Ukrainian-born American rabbi who made significant contributions to the Jewish community in the United States. As the Boyaner Rebbe of New York, he led his community for over 40 years, establishing a strong presence on the Lower East Side of New York City. His charismatic personality and warm demeanor drew many American Jewish youth to his court, where he provided spiritual guidance and leadership.
In addition to his role as the Boyaner Rebbe, Friedman played a key part in American Jewish leadership, holding positions in various organizations such as Agudath Israel of America and the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah. He was also involved in Holocaust rescue efforts, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of the Jewish community. Friedman's impact extended beyond the United States, as evidenced by the establishment of the Tiferet Yisroel yeshiva in Jerusalem in 1957, a flagship institution of the Ruzhiner yeshiva. Through his tireless efforts, Friedman left a lasting legacy in the world of Judaism.
