Judah ibn Verga

Judah ibn Verga was a 15th-century scholar of Sefardic origin, whose expertise spanned multiple fields including history, kabbalah, mathematics, and astronomy. Born in Seville, ibn Verga's life and work reflect the intellectual diversity of his time. As a member of a family with a strong tradition of learning, his nephew Solomon ibn Verga would go on to become a notable author in his own right.

Although details of Judah ibn Verga's life are limited, it is through his nephew Solomon's work, "The Scepter of Judah", that some information about him has been preserved. As an astronomer and possibly a mathematician, ibn Verga's contributions to these fields, while not extensively documented, suggest a broad range of intellectual interests and pursuits. His work as a historian and kabbalist further underscores the interdisciplinary nature of his scholarship, reflecting the rich cultural and intellectual heritage of the Sefardic community in 15th-century Spain.
