Abraham Eliezer Eliyahu Ha-Levi Igel was a prominent figure in modern Orthodox Judaism, hailing from Galicia. His spiritual guidance was influenced by the esteemed Samuel David Luzzatto, also known as Shadal, under whom he studied. Igel's career as a rabbi and preacher was marked by his association with the "Enlightened Congregation", where he played a key role in promoting Jewish values and principles.

Igel's leadership extended beyond his local community, as he held the position of Chief Rabbi of Czernowitz from 1854 to 1892. Additionally, he served as the Chief Rabbi of the broader Bukovina region from 1854 to 1878, during a period of Austrian rule. Through his esteemed positions, Igel contributed significantly to the spiritual and administrative landscape of Jewish communities in the region, leaving a lasting impact on the development of modern Orthodox Judaism in Austria.
